A seminar at Sindh Madressatul Islam College

Karachi:Pakistan has spent Rs366 billion, a total of six per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP), on environment protection annually, Federal Minister for Environment, Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, said on Monday.

Afridi was addressing a seminar ‘Environment from the Islamic point of view’ at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, Sindh Madressatul Islam College (SMIC). He said that the country has passed acts and prepared policies for environmental protection but the lack implementation of these policies remained the main issue. He further said that political pressure, negligence and mafias were creating hindrance in the implementation of environmental policies.

The federal minister informed that the name of the ministry is being changed from Ministry for Environment to Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. THE NEWS
