Protesters demand arrest of professor’s murderers
Karachi:February 10: Dozens of civil society activists, under the umbrella of the Women Action Forum (WAF), staged a demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday to press the government for the arrest of the murderers of a Sindh University professor.
The protesters also demanded the removal of Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Mughal, Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq from their posts. A Professor of the university, Bashir Ahmed Channar, was gunned down in January this year. Later, the teaching faculty and students launched a protest campaign for the arrest of the killers. Earlier this month, the government terminated two professors and issued show-cause notices to some others for participating in demonstrations.
The protesters claimed that Mughal, Ebad and Pir Mazhar were primarily responsible for the “terrible conditions” at the university.The news.
