Procession taken out against SU VC

HYDERABAD:03 September: Activists and supporters of the Awami Jamhoori Party (AJP) on Sunday took out a procession in protest against Vice-chancellor Dr Nazir A. Mughal of Sindh University and called for an educational emergency for 10 years to promote education.

Led by the chief of the AJP and member of the Save Sindh University and Education Committee, Abrar Kazi, they demanded removal of the VC to save the future of students.
Mr Kazi said the VC and his benefactors were maligning the committee members to damage their campaign.

He said powers of the chancellor to run universities and secondary boards should be handed over to the Sindh chief minister. Appointment of VCs should be done in accordance with the criteria laid down by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

He urged the government to include as compulsory subject books on computer, English, mathematics, arts and science in the course from class I to X. He said the government must
ensure admission of every five-year-old to primary school.

He said there were 8 million school-going children, but only 4.3 million were enrolled in educational institution.Dawn.
