Rs1.8 billion grant was approved for University of Karachi

Karachi:March 30:A Rs1.8 billion grant was approved for the University of Karachi on Thursday by the Central Development Working Party.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad. Shoaib Siddiqui, the planning and development secretary, Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, chairman of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan and Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan, the vice-chancellor of KU were also in attendance.

VC Khan gave a detailed briefing to the members on the already proposed PC-I proposal which included the upgradation of teaching and research facilities in KU, a new block for the faculty of science and social sciences, 10 new buses for students, upgradation of biotechnology department, new building with facilities and equipment for KU’s Centre for Digital Forensic Science and Technology, a new hostel for 200 students, the setting up of a main communication network and a gymnasium.

“My supreme priority is KU’s upgradation and development,” said Dr Khan at the meeting. “We will be in the rankings of the world’s best universities if we get adequate funds. Our faculty members are highly committed in the field of academics and research.”The news.
