New training academy to be set up for city’s firefighters

Karachi:08 september : Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Thursday announced plans to establish a training facility in Baldia Town for the city's firefighters.
Presiding over a meeting held to review the fire department's affairs, the city mayor said the fire training academy will be established in Baldia Town on five acres of land wherein firemen would be imparted training in latest fire extinguishing techniques so as to enhance their capability and performance.

The mayor urged fire department’s officers and fire fighters to work hard and improve the department’s functioning and efficacy. He observed that the department holds much importance because of the fact that fire fighters strive to save the live and property of citizens whenever an incident occurs anywhere in the city.

Akhtar said the fire department will be equipped with all the latest equipments and machinery to enhance its performance. He added that currently 18 out of 22 fire stations working in Karachi were functional, but more were needed to cover the substantial increase in the city’s population.

The meeting was attended by municipal commissioner, Nasim Nawaz, financial advisor, Dr Asghar Abbas, chairman city council’s finance committee, Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, senior director municipal services, Nauman Arshad, director technical, SM Shukaib, director municipal services, Musheer Ahmed, chief fire officer Tehsin siddiqui and Arshad Hussain among others.The news.
