Zubair, Dr Asim vow joint efforts to reform higher education

Karachi:May 4:Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair met provincial Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Asim Hussain on Wednesday at the Governor House, and both leaders vowed to make joint efforts to reform higher education.

A handout issued by the Governor House said both discussed in detail the role of universities in the promotion of higher education and research in the province.

Zubair said a society could make progress only after amply promoting a culture of higher education and research. In this regard, he said, the federal Higher Education Commission would provide utmost support to the universities. He said the government was determined to resolve issues of universities and facilitate them in doing research, asking the provincial HEC to prepare a working paper to this effect.

The governor was of the view that Pakistani students could do wonders in the field of research in different disciplines of higher education whenever they were provided with ample prospects for demonstrating their skills and talent.

Both expressed the resolve to work jointly for reform in the higher education sector and systems of universities so that goals of the government regarding the promotion of higher education could be easily achieved.

They said the federal and provincial HECs should forge close cooperation for resolving problems being faced by the universities.

The meeting also decided to upgrade the curricula being taught in different disciplines of higher education according to the prevailing global and modern trends. Both Zubair and Hussain decided to take effective measures for improving the standard of higher education being imparted in the country.

Hussain welcomed the views and plans of the governor, being chancellor of public sector universities, for the promotion of higher education in the country.The news.
