Punjab University, Iqra win in Caltex T20 Extravaganza

KARACHI:April 6: Punjab University and Iqra University won their matches of the Caltex Cricket Extravaganza in contrasting styles in Lahore and Karachi respectively.

In an exciting encounter of the Caltex Cricket Extravaganza, Punjab University edged UET in a last-over finish at the Aleem Dar Academy Ground in Lahore.

Needing 160 to win from their quota of 20 overs, Punjab University reached the victory target for the loss of three wickets with just two balls to spare.

UET elected to bat first and scored 159-7 in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab University rode on an excellent 47 from 34 balls by Hamza Nazar to win the match. Hamza, who also took 2-29 was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Meanwhile, in the Karachi leg of the tournament sponsored by Chevron Lubricants Pakistan Limited, Iqra University defeated IOBM in a one-sided encounter at the Aga Khan Gymkhana. IOBM elected to bat first but were bowled out for just 83 in 17 overs with Mohammad Shariq bagging 4-15 from three overs. Iqra University reached the victory target in just 10.1 overs. They did lose five wickets in the process. Shariq was named man-of-the-match. The Islamabad leg of the tournament will get underway from Thursday (April 6).

Leading educational institutions from three major cities of Pakistan – Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad — are featuring in the Caltex Cricket extravaganza.

Teams winning city finals will travel to Lahore to play the grand finals between 11th and 12th April 2017.

The Grand Finals will be played between City Winners from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and Grand final will be played on 12th April at 2:30pm.
