Liaquat Medical College awards 99 MBBS degrees in 4th convocation

Karachi:August 28:As the tassels of the mortarboards were turned, around 99 graduates from Liaquat National Medical College from batch 2015 received their MBBS degrees and medals of excellence at the 4th convocation from the Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, Dr Muhammad Qaiser.

Three students were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals along with cash prizes for their outstanding performance while one student was also given an honoury Wajid Ali Shah medal.

The gold medal for the MBBS class of 2015 was given to Dr Fatimah Jaffer and silver medal was bagged by Dr Sana Ghazala. Dr Syeda Rida-e-Zehra received the bronze medal along with Wajid Ali Shah medal and another cash prize.

Lauding the efforts of doctors who serve humanity, Vice Chancellor University of Karachi Dr Muhammad Qaiser said that in a country of 220m people where basic medical facilities were not available, those who strive to get degrees of medicine and surgery are fortunate and they should help the people who are unable to afford qualified physicians. He congratulated all the graduates and hoped that they would be exemplary individuals whose aim would be to aid the underprivileged.

Medical Director Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College Dr Salman Faridi also passed felicitations to the passing batch and advised them to shoot for success by setting their goals and working with sheer dedication.

“As doctors, when you would lose a patient, it would be very hard to bear that and many might even think of quitting for good, but I want to remind you that death of a patient is not the failure of treatment, rather at times it lies in the hands of God,” he stated, stressing that young doctors needn’t be filled with arrogance and should always be present for the lesser-privileged.

“I would also urge you to continue the pursuit to achieve your goals and not to hesitate in taking a leap or risk,” he said.

Principal Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College, Dr. Ami Ali Shoro and Chairman Governing Body of the LNH, Syed Shahid Ali, also spoke.The news.
